Hi there! My name is Genavieve and I have been crowned Miss Teenage Manitoba 2017! I’m so excited to get involved in our community events, charities, fundraisers, and much more!
I am from Winnipeg and I play rugby on my school’s rugby team, I perform in my school musicals and in musicals around the city. I love to sing. I have performed the anthems for the Manitoba Moose and the Winnipeg Goldeyes. I also am in the Winnipeg Music Festival almost every year, and I won the provincial Music Festival in 2016. I played hockey and was the only girl on my team for about 10 years, but I unfortunately broke my back and had to stop playing. I spent about 4 months in a plastic back brace, and although pain will always be something I have to overcome, I want to show others who suffer with pain as well that you can get through it if you don’t let it bring your life down and have faith. I am very lucky to still be able to do my daily workout routines and play other sports. Living a healthy and active lifestyle is very important to me.
I honestly had never thought about participating in a pageant in my entire life. I didn’t even know we had pageants in Winnipeg. I came across the website “Miss Teenage Canada” online, and I instantly got extremely excited. I read that there was no height requirement and you didn’t need any past pageant experience to enter. I love getting involved in as many things as possible and I love being busy and trying new things, so I thought I would give it a shot.
The pageant weekend was one of the best weekends of my life. I met so many new and amazing people, everyone was so friendly and you could tell that the people involved wanted you to be the best that you could be. Nobody was there to bring you down or to criticize you.
When the night of the pageant arrived I was nervous and very excited. I didn’t realize how much a pageant would mean to me until that moment. All of the girls looked absolutely stunning. When they called my name and gave me my title of Miss Teenage Manitoba 2017, the feeling that overwhelmed me was pure joy. It was the most amazing feeling in the world. I am very excited to represent Manitoba at the Miss Teenage Canada pageant this August in Toronto.
A very powerful statement was brought up multiple times during the pageant. The statement was “Be your Own Kind of Beautiful”. That statement made me realize that this pageant doesn’t revolve around what you look like, it revolves around your personality, your dedication and what you are willing to do to support and help your community.
I am so happy that I got involved in the pageant industry. I am very excited to explore all the new opportunities to come, meet new people, and help out in any way I can across Manitoba and eventually across Canada. I truly believe that the selfless acts of one person can change the world for the better.
